Torremolinos
Torremolinos is a very famous tourist resort along the Costa del Sol with a population of about 60,000 inhabitants. Located between the city of Malaga and Benalmadena, Torremolinos – often nicknamed Torre - enjoys a marvellous coastal location with an interesting 7 km long shoreline and many sandy beaches close to the city centre.

Besides, the town offers a great number of leisure and amusement possibilities, which make Torremolinos so popular with tourists from all over the world. The place is characterized by the constant tourism boom since the 1960s, which is the reason for the abundance of Torremolinos hotels, bars and restaurants, especially along the beachfront. However, the main pedestrian street is Calle San Miguel in the central district, connecting the Plaza Costa del Sol and the Playa de Bajondillo and being home to hundreds of shops and gastronomical establishments.
Similar to the history of many other localities on the Costa del Sol, the area of Torremolinos was settled by Phoenicians, Greeks, Romans, Arabs and finally recaptured by Christian Spaniards. Yet culturally, the town may not have as many things to offer as other places in the province of Malaga, since the locality used to be a sleepy fishing village until the 1950s when Torremolinos was raised up to a tourist stronghold. Today, the town stands out due to its golden, clean beaches (Los Alamos, El Bajondillo, San Julian, La Carihuela, Montemar and El Saltillo), which offer a big range of leisure activities, like volleyball, swimming, scuba diving, snorkelling, windsurfing etc., and its energetic night life. Particularly in summer, visitors as well as locals can enjoy all week long the bars and discotheques along the coast and in the city centre of Torremolinos: noteworthy places are the beach clubs in Los Alamos and the gay/lesbian quarter La Nogalera close to Calle San Miguel. Travellers with families can enjoy the Sea Life Centre, where one gets to know the colourful marine life, or other amusement parks like Aqualand or the Crocodile Park.
Torremolinos is just 10 km from the local airport, so a cheap and fast option to get to your destination would be taking a shuttle bus from Malaga Airport to Torremolinos.
