Sierra Nevada
The Sierra Nevada is a 100 km long part of the Betic Cordillera and its centre zone is protected as a national park in the provinces of Granada and Almeria, covering a surface of 86,208 hectars and being home to two of the Iberian Peninsula’s highest mountains - the Mulhacén (3,482m) and the Veleta (3,392m). Staying at any of the Sierra Nevada hotels is the best option if you want to ski in Spain, also you can hire Sierra Nevada apartments to spend a great time with your family and friends.

Sierra Nevada is divided into two main areas - one that forms the high ridge of mountains clearly marked by glacial action with barely developed vegetation and the Mediterranean mountain range of less severe peaks that abound with flora and fauna of all types. The higher peaks are snow-covered virtually all year long and provide the necessary supply of water for the foothills below where over 2,000 species of plants have been discovered and catalogued. More than 60 species of birds live in the sierra, e.g. orioles, hoopoes, golden eagles and griffin vultures, as well as various mammals like wild mountain goats, foxes, badgers, wild cats and a great variety of snakes and lizards.
Moreover, Sierra Nevada is Europe’s southernmost ski resort and has been greatly improved since 1994. It now possesses a total of 61 km of skiing tracks for both beginners and experts, spread over 39 slopes and 6 impressive off-course trails. There are overall 19 lifts which can be used daily during the season from 9 am. to 4.30 pm. Snow is practically guaranteed all winter long due to an enormous number of snow producing machines that keep all the major courses open. Needless to say, the resort offers ski hire and lessons at all levels as well as facilities like shops, restaurants, doctors, chemists, parking space etc.
The Sierra Nevada is about 150 km from Malaga, so why not take a shuttle bus from Malaga Airport to Sierra Nevada which is a very comfortable way to travel, considering that there are only few other transport links between the two spots?
